Case Study:

A Potential Customer is looking to build a new cyber security monitoring platform after hearing positive things about technologies such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR, NDR, XDR and CTI. It is believed that the current detective and preventative solutions need to be better integrated and automated to deliver value.

The company is also concerned about demonstrating responsible practices in the event of a cyber security incident, noting that fines imposed by regulators can be severe. One area that unsettles the management is in the collection, processing, and retention of event data that may be requested by regulators or law enforcement during or after an incident. The company wants to be able to review data from the past year in a cost-effective way and ensure that the data is reliably accurate and available (considering best-practices for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery).

The company is open to establishing a green-field project to establish a comprehensive monitoring and detection platform but is concerned about cost and alignment with common compliance requirements such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO27001 as examples.

The company is open to creative ideas that provide flexibility such as considering Open-Source and Cloud-Based Solutions and are eager to prevent restrictive vendor tie-ins.

The platform solution should address the current concerns and current market trends/technology landscape changes.

Task:

Design a solution in no more than 3 PowerPoint Slides (excluding any cover slide) that achieves the goals of the Customer and explain the link between the objectives and the design.

The design should highlight perceived assumptions, risks and considerations that have been considered and would need to be considered further.

From the submission it should be easy to identify:

• The High-Level Architecture of the Platform (component level)

• Sample software for each component

• Mapping between Component and Requirement

• Assumptions, Risks and Considerations influencing the architecture blueprint and software choices.
