Shorts replay automatically, so a close that leads back into the opening line gets counted again, and retention past one hundred percent is what pushes distribution. It costs one sentence at the scripting stage and it is the single cheapest win available. Then the ordinary things done well: captions cut to the beat of speech rather than dumped as one block, a visual change roughly every couple of seconds so the eye never settles, diagrams built rather than borrowed where a concept needs one, and audio levelled so the music never fights the voice.
