# ABAQUS + Water tank with base seismic isolator

Model of a 30-meter diameter water tank (circular) with seismic isolation at the base, 18 meters high and 16 meters high in ABAQUS. Thickness of the concrete slab that is on the seismic isolators is 60 cm. and the thickness of the slab that is under the insulators is 100 cm. Variable thickness in height of the tank wall, in rings of each 2.4 meters in height, as in the attached image.

Project Objective:

• Water hydraulic level sloshing observation and consequent pressure distribution monitoring.

• Von misses stress video on the tank wall for acceleration vs. time earthquake.

• Video of the movement of the water for the acceleration vs. time earthquake, observing the sloshing effect.

• Video of the lateral deflection for the acceleration vs. time earthquake.

• Video tutorial on how to run the models and get the results.

• Modal analysis of the tank with seismic isolator. And detect the fundamental period of the seismically isolated tank, the period of the impulsive and convective mode.

• Obtain the hysteresis curve of the two types of seismic isolators, recorded by the analysis with the earthquake.

• Stress and strain analysis due to the earthquake.

• Maximum stresses on the tank wall for an acceleration vs. time input.

• Maximum sloshing height.

• Maximum displacement.

• Video training on how to run the model and how the modeling was done in ABAQUS.

• Correctly model the two types of seismic isolators, considering the horizontal and vertical hysteretic behavior.

• A video tutorial on how to edit the earthquake in ABAQUS, to be able to enter different earthquakes, including time steps.

- In the tank, there are 2 types of seismic isolators, one could be represented with red bilinear curve and another with the blue linear curve. It is necessary that this form can be editable for later modifications. Respecting the displacement and yield strength of the red seismic isolator.

- The seismic isolator, vertically, has a very high rigidity, with a stiffness of 295000 Tonf/m for the red color, and 250000 Tonf/m for the blue color (same stiffness both in compression and tension). Vertically, the seismic isolator functions as a high-strength spring. Remember, the idea is to do an analysis considering the horizontal and vertical earthquake at the same time.

- The important thing is to represent the bilinear hysteresis curve of the seismic isolator, if it can be represented in another way, there is no problem, the important thing is to correctly perform the seismic isolation.

- The seismic input must be applied at the base of the seismic isolators, in the base.

- The mesh must be of a size that allows the sloshing effect to be fluently visualized in the upper part of the tank.

- The concrete slab that will be subjected to the horizontal and vertical earthquake, which is under the insulators, presents fixed support at the edges, if there are questions please ask.

- Obtain the hysteresis curve of the two types of seismic isolators, recorded by the analysis with the earthquake. The following image is for reference.

- Two files will be delivered in excel format of acceleration vs time, which represents the horizontal earthquake and the vertical earthquake. Which must be applied at the same time, as occurs in a real earthquake.

- The earthquake should be applied at the bottom of the insulators considering the horizontal and vertical earthquake at the same time.

- Mention which version of the program was used in the model, in addition to the plug-ins used to make the model, and a guide on how to install them and how to use the model and obtain the results.

- The same properties and location of the seismic isolators that will be delivered in the following image must be considered. The location and ownership of the insulators is associated with the color red and blue.
