Merging 6+ STL files usually breaks down at non-manifold edges where the meshes meet — before scaling I'd need to know if these came from a scanner or from solid models, since scan-based STLs often need remeshing before boolean union will even work cleanly. I've done chassis and mounting bracket designs with vent calculations and full spec sheets, so mesh cleanup and dimensional edits are familiar territory.
