Workroom is a set of reusable building blocks for quickly deploying high-quality 3D shopping experiences on the web.
We are creating a 3D skateboard builder where a user will be able to customize a skateboard in 3D on the web. There will be ~36 grip tape options for them to choose from so we will be using 1 model, 1 normal texture, and will be swapping between albedo textures depending upon the user's selection. Don't worry if you don't understand the components of a skateboard - we'll help you.
The current model's UV's are skewed slightly in the grip tape section. As you'll notice, the edge of the UV's are bowed inwards as they approach the center of the deck instead of being in a straight line like the deck's geometry. This didn't matter with a uniform black albedo texture but when we introduce grip tape albedo textures with designs on them it results in the design being skewed/stretched.
While maintaining the UV's for the deck's wooden side section, we need the UV's for the deck's grip tape section to be straightened out so their shape matched the deck's geometry. This way we can replace the black grip tape in the albedo texture with the designed grip tape and it'll appear correctly. This should be as easy as unwrapping the deck_top model's grip tape section and then sizing the UV's properly so they remain facing opposite ways and side-by-side, like they are currently, without overlapping the deck's side wooden UV's.
The delivered textures should be very similar to current ones except for the slight change in UV's and of course the different grip tape designs. Wood siding should remain the exact same, the normal texture's pattern should remain the same, and the screws should remain in the same location on the deck so they align with the trucks. Using the grip tape images we provide, which will likely need to have the corners cropped to match the decks rounded shape, use substance painter (or substitute your software choice) to add the grip tape design to the albedo texture in place of the current black grip tape.
