I am developing a compact aluminium cylindrical research assembly that houses a precision central rotor, concentric removable coil formers, permanent magnets, and a small electronics bay. This is a mechanical design + manufacturing documentation project only. No electrical design or physics modeling is required. The assembly must be compact, symmetric, serviceable, and suitable for high-speed rotor operation while allowing future coil configuration changes. --- 1️⃣ Overall Configuration Horizontal cylindrical aluminium housing Central precision rotor on dual angular-contact bearings Concentric removable coil formers around rotor Magnet pockets sized for standard 12 × 3 mm NdFeB disc magnets Internal cable routing channels Removable electronics mounting plate Sensor mounting provisions (RPM, vibration, temperature) Target envelope (baseline — can refine during design): Outer diameter: 300–340 mm Overall length: 700–800 mm Aluminium body material: 6061-T6 / 6082-T6 High-stress parts (if required): 7075-T6 --- 2️⃣ Design Requirements Rotor & Bearing System Dual angular-contact bearing arrangement Proper bearing seat fits (H7/g6 or equivalent ISO fit system) Shaft runout ≤ 5 microns at bearing journals Balanced-friendly design (provision for dynamic balancing) Air-Gap & Clearance Defined and consistent rotor-to-coil air-gap (to be finalized during design) Minimum 5 mm clearance around coils for thermal probes and wiring No interference at full tolerance stack-up Magnet Integration Pockets sized for 12 × 3 mm neodymium discs Mechanical retention required (lip, cover ring, fastener retention) Adhesive-only retention is not acceptable Serviceability Coil formers must be removable without machining Electronics plate removable Access panels must not compromise symmetry Cable Routing Clean internal channels No free-hanging wiring paths Provision for future vacuum feedthrough if required --- 3️⃣ Deliverables Required A. 3D CAD Model (Full Assembly) SolidWorks preferred (Fusion 360 acceptable) Fully parametric All components modeled (housing, rotor, shaft, bearings, coil formers, fasteners, magnet pockets, electronics plate) B. 2D Manufacturing Drawings For all machinable components: GD&T where required Bearing fits clearly specified Surface finish notes Thread specifications (metric preferred) Assembly notes Critical inspection dimensions highlighted C. Exploded View + BOM Standard fasteners (ISO metric) Bearings (select common catalog parts) Seals / spacers Simple, locally sourceable components D. Neutral CAD Exports STEP IGES --- 4️⃣ Validation Criteria (Acceptance Conditions) The design will be validated by checking: Rotor clears stator region with defined air-gap Magnet cavities match 12 × 3 mm discs precisely Bearing seats and shaft fits follow correct ISO tolerance classes ≥ 5 mm clearance around coils Balanced-friendly geometry Assembly is mechanically symmetric --- 5️⃣ Experience Required Please apply only if you have: Experience designing rotating machinery or motor housings Experience designing around strong neodymium magnets Strong understanding of bearing fits and high-speed tolerances Ability to produce clean production-ready drawings When applying, include: Portfolio examples of similar mechanical assemblies Software used Estimated timeline for first draft and final delivery --- 6️⃣ Important Notes This is a confidential research prototype.
