I have two machines... both with modems... one machine needs to call the other one over a phone line. The machine needs to be sitting waiting for a call - and answer it when it rings. When it answers, they need to connect and then I need to "ask" the remote machine for various things (password and data) and I need to be able to interpret that incoming data. Then I need to send info back to the other machine. I have a form setup with mscomm and I have it set to answer the incoming call... that is where I am... I don't know how to "ask" for the info from the remote machine and I don't know how to view the data coming in. We need to send high bandwidth data along copper wires at long distance. We want to save costs by using 'off the shelf' ADSL technology. The problem is that, while the ADSL modems for the receive end (used for Internet access) are widely available, we are not so sure about the transmit end (as these are normally at the exchange). We would like to use an ADSL modem at BOTH ends to allow us to transfer 3-4Mbaud data over a cable about 3km length, the ADSL specs suggest this should be no problem. We would probably need microcontrollers interfaced to each modem to allow us to interface our data stream. Requirements for this project: Linux Topcom modem (preferably Topcom Xplorer 850) Here it goes: I have a Topcom Xplorer 850 usb modem (Globespan chipset), i need it to work under linux. Topcom however doesn't provide linux driver, and isn't intendet in the future. Now there is a linux driver for an ECI adsl modem (also globespan chipset) that shoud work for almost all modems with globespan chipset.
