I need an application which will compare hotel room prices in Japan.

The application must be able to compare prices of same room categories from different hotel reservation sites (including the following websites):

Expedia, Agoda, Booking.com, Rakuten Travel (JP), Jalan (JP), Ikkyu (JP), Rurubu (JP), and if possible Brand.com (of the hotel).

The Japanese price search is absolutely a must requirement.
We are looking for an app that functions similarly to TripAdvisor (in terms of price shopping).

Simple design requested:

1. User types in a City, date of checkin/checkout, number of guests (selectable from 1 to 4).

2. App creates a list of hotels in that city and lists hotel with room availability and lists the price from each website along the name of the hotel.

3. User can click on the link to jump to the reservation page of the individual online hotel reservation website.

Note 1: User can see if there is any price difference immediately.
Note 2: The displayed prices should be tax included.

Are the japanese booking sites you mentioned a MUST have ? I tried to develop a prototype yesterday and was able to integrate most of the sites you mentioned for price comparison except the japanese ones (can maybe integrate rakuten aswell)
Problem with those sites are that they donot have any API available for data exchange between a service and their service/site and the sites being in japanese, any kind of scrapping of data (which is a poor practice) is not possible aswell.

However, as long as you do want price comparisions, I can integrate other hotel booking services for japan (popular ones) like hotwire , cleartrip, expedia , agoda , booking.com , hotels.com , dealangel.com etc.

Let me know if I should still proceed with it, I can still integrate all the features and create the app like the way you want, its just the hotel booking services/sources will need to change a bit

  But now things are different and the app will need some more programming to actually process the data and display it more properly to show comparisions, secondly you will ned a central API to make calls to the booking services APIs
  It will be YourApp->YourAPI->MultipleBookingSitesAPIs->YourAPI->YourApp
  Thirdly, if you need rakuten, I will most possibly have to write crawler and scrapers on my own to parse data from rakuten or sites without APIs which is time consuming and heavy coding.
  It would be better if you can discuss it in more details over skype so I can better understand your needs and provide you appropriate solutions.

  But I will still give you a estimate, the whole project with Rakuten integration will cost around $1500 including the app, central API, decent GUI for app and 4-5 booking services results (including rakuten)
  Without rakuten and just including 3-4 services will cost around $750-1000~ for the services I mentioned have API available
  If you can however get affiliate membership of other sites and access to their APIs, it will cost around $500-750~ as per your requirements

Will it be possible to increase the contest prize ? I can certainly create a outstanding app but for this type of project I feel $150 a bit less for the time invested

  Thanks for that, that will motivate me to try my best on this project in highest possible quality.
  Just to make sure that I understood correctly:
  
  1. App needs to be for iPhone/iPad both or just one of them ?
  2. App needs hotel listings and comparisons only for Japan (and its cities)

You said price displayed should be tax included, but unfortunately prices can only be displayed as per the online booking site since they decide their tax during checkout which is almost impossible to calculate unless you know the exact formula for tax rates of the visitor's country or Japan. I do believe that the online booking sites already show all prices including taxes.
  4. You have listed quite a lot of booking sites and most of them (almost all) do not provide any API to gather their results or run searches, as such I will have to write custom crawler and parser modules for many of them. Will it be okay if I use a few sites that do provide API and comparison of prices against the sites you listed above ? End result and the features and work flow you requested will still be same, I just want to be transparent on my approach.
