the need to create an English version of the existing slogan of the kinds clothing brand.
Brand background information: kids clothing, footwear and accessories for children aged 2 - 14.
The competitive edge of the brand is a combination of good quality/design/price. This is a mass-market brand.
Brand characteristic features – brand for active, energetic, joyful and cheerful children that never sit still (see Enclosed photo shoots)
Slogan for translation and adaptation:
Word-for-word translation of the slogan from the source language is impossible, since it contains a play on words and consequently – two meanings.
“Clothes which lasts long” – this underlines durability of the clothes, designed for active children
“Сlothes which runs around” - this underlines
In the original language “lasts long” and “runs” can be described by one verb, therefore in the process of translation into English the original meaning of the slogan is lost.
The requirements to the slogan:
The nearest equivalent slogan, which has been developed by the brand team was: “Comfort, quality and joy”. It was rejected by the decision makers as “too boring and long” in terms of style and way of presentation, however it reflects the key advantages and characteristic features of the brand (refer to the Details above in the Brand background information section).
Hence, it is necessary (1) to reflect the quality of the products preferably through durability or quality in general and (2) to focus on the active and dynamic way of life of children.
A laconic slogan is appreciated, since it is placed on the sew-on labels of the kids clothing.
