The submission is an image file as one can submit an image file only (or some video files in some contests). Since you mentioned that you are new to freelancer.com, I would like to guide you about the contest handover process.
Once a winning entry has been chosen by the contest holder, there comes the process of contest handover. In this process the winner transfers the files in correct format to the contest holder privately. The file is uploaded on the freelancer's server itself. Once the contest holder accepts and approves the files, the price money gets transferred to the freelancer's account. If the contest holder does not accept the file(s) within 7 days then also the price money gets transferred to the freelancer's account automatically. Still, since the file is uploaded, the contest holder can download the file anytime.
