  Three variants of
  VERSION 5 : crystals evenly spaced and stretched
  
  VERSION 5a
  VERSION 5b : crystals fade out in less steep a curve ( = appear more opaque on the whole )
  VERSION 5c : crystals overflow slightly to the front side
