What is Hazzat:

Hazzat is a way to notate a melody of a melismatic tune. It has been used by Coptic Orthodox Christians (mainly deacons) to map out long hymns such as this one:

Hazzat is a combination of dashes and dots that guide the chanter through the hymn. A sample map could look like the following:

What is Hazzat.com:

Deacons used to write these maps by hand, which makes it inconsistent and easy to loose. Hazzat.com is the first website to create a font in order to standardize and preserve these hymns. A sample hazzat page looks like the following:

Hazzat.com also has audio files, instrumental audio, musical notation, as well as some information and resources for Coptic Hymns.

About this Contest:

I'm looking into redesigning the look and feel for hazzat.com website. The layout of the website as well as the logo, the colors, the typeface, etc... I'm looking for a design that defines the new identity for hazzat.com

Deliverables:

- A logo (PSD and png formats)
- A website design (PSD and png formats as well as fonts)

Concept Suggestions:
=================
One suggestion that I have but you don't have to follow is to make the website look like a crude sketch on a piece of paper. The idea is that the hazzat used to be written by hand for many years so this website would capture the essence of this culture. To bootstrap this idea I uploaded a sketch of an Icon to give you an idea. Feel free to use it if needed. This is just one idea that you can go with, but you don't have to follow. Be creative!

Please get yourself familiar with the Coptic Orthodox Hymns, Iconography, and culture as well as the hazzat.com website in order to get the feel for what I'm looking for.

Thank you all for the great entries. I'm currently between #73 and #72 . #72 overall looks great, however it has a paper fold that doesn't look very realistic since it's on top of a sketch but I'm sure I can work with the designer on this. I'm personally leaning a bit towards #73 since it's closer to what I had in mind when I started the contest.

I'm currently in the process of getting input on the designs from other people before I finalize on the winning design.

I added comments to #58 to make it better. #57 is a great concept, but I can't get it to look like an aged piece of paper yet. I think that might make it better.

Just to clarify something. Lots of designs here confuse grey-scale with hand-sketched. I can take any picture or photograph and make it black and white, but that doesn't make it hand-sketched. I'm looking for something that looks hand sketched on a piece of paper. The more real the paper and sketches look, the better the rating you'll get.

Hey everyone, thanks for the participation. Regarding making it a sealed competition, could you please tell me why? Sorry I'm new to this and this is the second project I even post of this website. My intent is to have all entries visible so that when I comment on a design everyone will see what I like and what I don't like in order to fine tune the results. That way if you're totally going in the wrong direction then you can see what I rated highly to understand what I have in my mind.

Please reply if you feel differently. I understand that you don't want anyone to steal your designs and win the contest. I'll do my best to work with the original implementer of an idea to fine tune it to what I want. Please let me know if you still disagree.
