Contest Brief

Howdy!

I am looking for someone to help me design a logo for my newly opened consulting firm. The firm is called ikap Global LLC. We work to connect entrepreneurs, businesses & institutions in the US & Europe with up and coming companies in and across the continent of Africa. Basically, we help foreign (foreign in this sense is any company not from Africa) companies get into the African business market, by introducing them to the local connections and companies to allow them to realize their business dreams. In short, we serve as the link between companies with interests in capitalizing of Africa's massive market, and the local connections these companies need to allow them to execute their dreams.

All that said, "ikap" stands for "I know a person" because the model behind the business is that no matter where in the world you are, or what your business idea may be, "I know a person" that can help you make your dream a reality.

As for the logo itself, I only have a few specific requirements or recommendations. I am not set on any color schemes, I just ask that you keep it down to 2 colors max. Also, I am looking for the logo to be rather simple, and have the ability to stand alone as a representation for the company if no words are included. (That doesn't mean it cant have words, I just want it to be able to be recognizable, and not be words. Think the McDonalds logo, you dont need to read the name underneath it to know what company that is.) I just ask that you take some time and portray what you think most clearly captures the idea I have shared.

A couple more things to keep in mind, the personalities and ideologies of our founders are very important to our company. Our company is based in Austin, Texas, a city known for its modern, unique, progressive, hipster, eccentric flavor. In case you don't know, Austin prides itself on having a lot of live music, great food from all over the world, being a little weird/different, and being really laid back all while being the capital of the biggest state in the USA, (except Alaska but no one cares about them.) Think of the city as the business professional with a nice suit, but who may have a beard, rolled sleeves and with great taste in music.

We are a young start-up company, run by young, motivated people and we want the logo to portray this sense of expression, and personality. I also ask that something "Africa" is somehow incorporated into the logo in a subtle way. I want to emphasize the subtle part, because I believe this will be one of the most important features. While the company's work focuses on Africa, I do not want it to be misrepresented as an African company. It is an Austin-based company that focuses on the development of new businesses, ideas, and partnerships with other companies around the world and together we go to Africa.

Finally, I will include some words that we have set aside as trigger words that best describe our company. (This is a new technique that I am employing, if you would let me know whether it was helpful to you I would greatly appreciate it.)

Just so you are all aware, I am purposely responding to the entries in the public board so that all the designers can have a more clear sense of what I am looking for.

Thanks lumerbgraphics, thanks for your new submission on #20 . I love the creativity. This is a new way of looking at the idea, and I appreciate the thought you put into it. The road connecting to the horn of Africa is an excellent, creative expression. Could you send me some more versions of this image on a white background? Id love to see more color schemes are fonts as well. Also, I am looking for Africa to be a little less obvious. I dont want Africa to be the first thing that captures your attention. While we do work in Africa, we are not an African company so I dont want to give the impression that we are limited to Africa. Fantastic start though, and keep them coming!

Here are some symbols that I have had in mind. Try some of these in your logo designs, but do NOT be limited to these. If you have other images that come to mind, try them. The more the better!!

-Road,
-Airplane,
-Electrical Plug.

Keep in mind though, while I want the logo to be a symbol, I want something African to subtlety included.

I like the entries that have a stand alone logo. I like the use of the bright colors that is along my train of thought. I like lumberbgraphs idea of incorporating African map in the logo in a subtle way. Maybe even more subtle would be better. Keep the entries coming! Thanks!!
