Contest Brief

We need a logo design for a new UK company called One Single Night. The tagline is "Connecting Singles in Real Life".

The intro to the company is as follows:

'One Single Night is London’s specialist in quality real life events for young single professionals. We believe that when you connect face to face, great things can happen. Whether you’re looking for mates, dates, or fate, nothing beats real life human interaction. Our professionally hosted events bring together friendly, sociable people in truly unique venues all over London. We choose awesome, comfortable environments where you can have fun, be yourself, and meet great new people.'

The top 5 characteristics of the company are:

- Great events/nights
- Great people
- Great fun
- Relaxed atmosphere
- Well organised & professionally hosted

We want the focus to be on single people connecting in real life and away from online dating, the internet, fake profiles, subscription based systems etc. We're not adverse to symbols of affection (hearts etc.) being used in the logo, but we don't want that to be the focus. Romantic or warm colours could still be useful though, light red's, oranges, pinks perhaps.

We are very open minded on the design and want you to let your creative juices run free! But bear in mind we're looking to appeal to 22-35 yr old young professionals, so the website/logo is looking to be slick and clean, but still have a fun edge.

We've also mocked up some quick logos on some free online designers which are attached, and will hopefully give some inspiration. We're looking for the logo to be available in a large size and variety of formats so that we can use it in a different places. This logo will need to go on business cards, t-shirts, merchandise etc.We're not adverse to coloured backgrounds instead of white. Indeed these may also help us with a colour scheme for the website design.

Feel free to create several mockups with/without the tagline and with/without a logo. We may use those elements separately on different parts of the website. Also, we're looking for unique designs, not those which can be found elsewhere and may cause copyright issues in the future.

The main thing is to let your creative juices run wild and have fun! What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about our description and what our company stands for?

UPDATE: I should probably clarify that we're mainly looking for concepts here. The one that wins will probably need some small tweaking with size, colour, positioning, but only minor details which shouldn't take substantial time, and don't warrant another contest submission. Original concepts will be key to winning, and not merely imitating other designs. There will also likely be some ad-hoc follow up work for the winner, perhaps for website banners, flyer designs etc. in the future. We will be letting the contest take its course and choosing our favourite from the top entries. Any questions, let us know.

#22, 23, 24 – Like – The use of red and light grey, clarity of text

Possible improvements: If you read the brief and other feedback we have given, we’re not looking for overly romantic, love focused logos. The main aim is on connecting single people and having fun, so massive hearts don’t really fit with that. Lots of italic text is also not something we’re looking for.

#25 – Like: The use of black and red

Possible improvements: If you read the other feedback you’ll understand why the heart and people kissing it not what we’re looking for.
#26 – Like: Another well designed amendment to original.

Possible improvements: If you win, it would only be minor variations I’d like to try, like a smaller moon, smaller logo, clearer tagline, icon button below in main logo etc. But minor things like that we can deal with if you win, the main thing is the concept at this stage

#34 – Like: Heart on the ‘I’. Experimentation with starry sky background on ‘One’

Possible improvements: The ‘One’ is a little hard to read. Perhaps try horizontally.

#35 – Like: White and red on black is cool with tagline in grey. Love the variation on #13 logo. The ‘people’ look more connected.

Possible improvements: Capital letters. Change the ‘singal’ to ‘Single’. We get where you were going, but we should clarify this isn’t a site for hook-ups, one night stands, or sinful gals! Rather One Single Night to remember, or to begin it all, or ‘Is all it takes!’. Not a fan of italics.

#32 – Like: Really like this idea. Looks smart both as a name and a logo. Nice colourscheme. I like how the one is highlighted. Has a sense of fun, but not too informal.

Possible improvements: Would love to see some variations of this. Maybe a horizontal version, different fonts, less stars. Was thinking about the ‘O’ or the ‘One’ being in the box by itself maybe? And ‘Single night’ outside. Or the ‘O’ being inside the boxes as a logo, and then ‘One Single Night’ as text outside. Would also be interesting to see how you could work the tagline in? This is definitely one of my favourites so far.

#33 – Like: Clarity of logo. Experimentation with black and purple.

Possible improvements: No shadow, perhaps a heart or circle rather than a cube, to emphasize connection. Maybe some kind of background/outline. Change the logo for something like the ‘O’ in 32.

#27 – Like: Colour, font

Possible improvements: Remove barcode and people

#28 – Like: Boldness, dots above one being like people connecting, fun feel

Possible improvements: Change colour (red/black?), add background, experiment horizontally, experiment with N+dots as a logo concept

#29 – Like: Logo without the moons, maybe something else? The logo looks classy, but maybe too classy? The text is clear. Good experimentation with background colours, helps give ideas for web design.

Possible improvements: Different colour combos, particularly reds, blacks, greys, pinks etc. Experiment with/without objects in the purple heart

#30 – Like: Clearness of text, experimentation with ‘O’ and ‘e’, this logo looks good on a white background

Possible improvements: Perhaps less hearts. Different fonts, particularly the ‘single’

#31 As 30, but I like the ‘O’. Not sure about the type of heart in the middle.

#20 – Like: The contrast and how it could work on different backgrounds. How the ‘O’ is like a full moon but still doesn’t detract from readability.

Possible improvements: A link to connecting people. Palm tree has connotations of holiday. Potentially try red’s, pinks, blacks and see what you come up with.

#21 – I think the design and concept of everything you’ve done so far are good. Let’s see where we are at the end of the contest. Save you working on things unnecessarily and for zero value. I’ll pick my favourite at the end.

#17 – Like/Possible improvements: Same as 13. Plus moon and stars addition looks like a middle eastern flag.

#18 – Like: Clever logo/good concept. Like it. Connection + possibility for romance, plus moon, plus happy face. Possibly too many levels! Haha. Very clever logo.

Possible improvements: Would potentially like to see a horizontal versions, smaller icon variations etc. But these are probably cosmetic and could be easily changed if you were to win the contest. I can’t help but look at the logo and see a happy bear…. But that could just be me!

#19 – Like: Experimentation with colour. Interesting concept of intertwined/connected hearts (fits idea of connection with potential for romance)

Possible improvements: Perhaps less bright, with different fonts (no italics) and layout, but concept is interesting.

#14 – Like: Clarity of text and tagline. Colours chosen. The sleekness, cleanness, & professionalism of logo.

Possible improvements: Too much love. The emphasis should be on connecting people in real life and having fun, rather than on romance. The use of hearts can work, but in a more subtle way, perhaps as a dot on the ‘I’, or in the ‘O’ like on one of the other designs. Also may be worth experimenting with a horizontal layout.

#15 – Like: Same as 14, but also like the use of ‘Single’ in a different colour. Makes all three words stand out more. Like the way the tagline reflects position of picture.

Possible improvements: As 14

#16 – Like: See 15. There may also be some logic in ‘One Single Night’ being in a column like a ‘1’. But maybe this doesn’t emphasize connection in the same way as horizontal words joined together. Hmmm.

#10 – Like: Colour and boldness

Possible improvements: ‘One’ as a number. Size of ‘1’. Tagline in the middle. The way the woman is pandering to the man. There needs to be an emphasis more on connection rather than strictly romance.

#11 – Like: Experimentation with colour

Possible improvements: No deck chair and umbrella. This is not a holiday company. The emphasis on ‘one single’ in a different colour to ‘night’ sitting alone in the deck chair needs to be removed. We don’t want to remind people they are single, but rather focus on the connection, having fun, and meeting new people. The potential for romance can still be there, but not be overbearing.

#13 – Like: Imagery of logo, connecting people with possibility of romance. The font. The red. The sleekness, cleanness, & professionalism of logo.

Possible improvements: Removal of shadow, Make tagline more prominent, Different layouts with different location/size of picture.

#7 – Like: The heart, moon, and ‘O’ = very clever. Clarity and simplicity of logo. Use of moon/stars. The font

Possible improvements: Not sure about colour, perhaps brighter. Layout & number of stars. Potential lack of a distinct logo, but could use the ‘O’ by itself.

#8 – Like: Heart & moon. Experimentation with colour

Possible improvements: Much prefer your #7. The ‘One’ should be a word not a number. The logo looks a bit like a greeting card and it looks to be snowing! Would be good to see a ‘connecting people’ message worked in.

#9 – Like: The urban single feel. The use of colour. The use of different colours for the words. The boldness of the letters. The use of a heart as a moon.

Possible improvements: Location of picture, work in more urban single ‘professional’. The jagged borders and ‘splotchy’ look of the picture. The paint ‘blobs’ on the text.

#3 – Like: Experimentation with colour and logo. Working moon into logo. Clarity of tagline.

Possible improvements: The owl, or indeed any animal/creature mascot doesn’t have much relation to connecting people in real life. The italic font for ‘One Single Night’

#4 – Like: Experimentation with colour and logo. Speech bubbles and connection theme

Possible improvements: Size of image, and probably not a tree. A non- italic font for ‘One Single Night’

#5 – Like: Clarity of text

Possible improvements: Sharpness of logo/bio warfare connotations. We want people to have fun, not be killed. Overuse of black. Detachment of first letters.

#6 – Like: Clarity of text, use of red

Possible improvements: Not sure what the pictures are or what relevance they have to company values/message. To me it looks like a lamp with either a sofa or a mixture of suitcases and fridges.

Hi all! Firstly, let me say well done on the entries put forward so far. I wasn't expecting to get so many in 12 hours! Can't wait to see what is there by the end! Please see below my feedback on each design. Overall, I am looking for something slick, modern, and clean, but still with a clear message. There have been quite a few bold and elaborate designs, but I think the one that wins will be simpler.

#1 – Like: The idea of a smiley face made of moon and hearts. Like the boldness and clarity of the ‘One Single Night’

Possible improvements: Lack of colour, size/ratio of moon and hearts, font for tagline

#2 – Like: Clarity of text and tagline

Possible improvements: Change image and hearts. Too corny/cheesy for what we’re looking for. We’re aiming at young urban professionals. Tagline to include capitals.
