This is a consumer product (See attached file, first two images depict side and front views) that is used in proximity to the face, eyes and nose. The device has two parts:

1) A bottom part in the form of a cup, 65 mm tall 70 mm in diameter with wall thickness of 10 mm. This bottom part needs very little design, except where it needs to be slightly reshaped for continuity with the top portion) and
2) A top part in the form of a cap/cover, 55 mm to 65 mm in height, 70 to 80 mm in diameter that needs to be designed to resemble the head portion of a cute cuddly character with an WIDE open mouth— that is 35 to 40 mm wide at its greatest width and generally resembling the expression of ecstasy or great happiness.. The facial expression should be one that evokes strong positive feelings. The top and bottom combined should look attractive, even irresistible, and ideally have a cute personality--in much the same way the cartoon characters in "Hello Kitty" and "Pikachu" bond with consumers.

One key aspect would be designing and positioning the eyes, and combining that with suitable expression. For example, the eyes where they currently are--one on each side, and looking like an animal--can be moved forward closer to each other (near the midline) such that they look more like a human being or other mammals with both eyes at the front. The entire top cover needs to be redesigned to resemble a cute person or cuddly animal.

There MUST always be a wide open mouth, though the mouth opening does NOT need to be circular. You can submit one or more sketches first to me for feedback. Designers should focus on designing the top part to make the product as cute and attractive as possible. Design changes to the bottom can also be made to complement changes to the top. Feel free to use any attractive color combinations.

Front, side and rear views of the design should be provided, preferably in STP/SAT/IGS/CATIA/STL/ProE file formats. Multiple entries are encouraged.

  Based on the above submission, the sketch on the left will look the best IF the “tongue” portion is eliminated so that the mouth opening is shaped like the one on the right. In other words, the mouth shape on the right is what I want, but it is too small by 40-50%. The facial expression with eyes closed is not as good as with eyes open.
  
  The work that remains is to make the rest of the character (especially, face, eyes, etc) as cute and adorable as possible, AND to make the lower half of body taller. Remember the lower half is a cup that holds hot water. The top half is just decoration and should not take up disproportionate amount of space, otherwise there is not enough volume left for hot water. Please send me a side view so I can see how the open mouth will engage with the side of the face when in use. I realize it is not possible to have an actual “seal” of the mouth around the user’s face, but hopefully we can have a 75 to 85% “seal”. Thank you.

So far, most contestants have missed the mark in their design submissions, suggesting that they have not read my project requirement or do not understand them. I have therefore made two sketches which I have just uploaded to show the general concept and proportions I am after. Please remember not to leave the opening "mouth" completely round which makes it resemble a scream. Try to reshape it into a happy or joyous mouth opening.

The product dimensions are: general diameter 70 mm; general height: 120 mm. The partition line (separating top part from bottom part) is 65 mm from bottom. Think of the device as comprising [1] a bottom cup that is 65 mm tall 70 mm in diameter, and [2] the top cover/cap/lid that is 55 mm tall. This top part is where you should focus your design on. Depending on surface design of the top part, the outer diameter can be 65-75 mm in diameter.

Remember there MUST be a wide open mouth—preferably a laughing happy mouth) that is 35 to 40 mm wide at its greatest width. The facial expression should be one that evokes positive feelings. Please refer back to the Pikachu image for reference. You are encouraged to design your own happy cute expressions. For maximum work efficiency, you may want to sketch out one or more designs and send to me. I will provide you with prompt and constructive feedback, so you can proceed quickly in the direction I need you to go. Thank you!

  Please read carefully the dimension requirements. You have submitted a cup with a tiny head on top that is largely unchanged from the original. The "pig's nose" should be concealed inside the head of a cute animal. No big ears, please, as this creates problem for tooling. I asked for small ears (like those on a polar bear or person).. thank you
