Adding colour to The Steadfast Oak

Attached is a pen and ink drawing, I now want some colour added to the image. When finished, this coloured image is to be printed as a greetings card. I have no fixed ideas on the type of colouring, whether a watercolour wash, or detailed colouring, bright or muted. A background should be added that refers to the text below, for instance, the background could vaguely represent a forest of boat masts instead of a forest of trees, or a sea battle in the forest mist. The tree however must stand out from the background
I am looking for this contest to provide inspiration. This is the first tree in a set of twelve, and if I am impressed enough by the winning submission, they may be asked to use the same style on the other eleven trees.
Here is the description to appear on the back of the greeting card:
The Sturdy Oak
Who would England be without me? Your navy were called 'The wooden walls of England'. Would those walls have kept out the French and Spaniards without the oak that clad the ships and protected the men within?
With a stout heart and a broad reach, I'll grow bigger and live longer than any honest tree in the forest.
What child does not know the shape of my leaves, what man has not been warmed by my fire, or lady sat in an Oaken chair. What pig has not been fattened by my acorns, whose shoe-leather has not been tanned by my bark.
I am the oak; I am England.
