Create a one-page illustration that looks like a blueprint of an "exploded" object, with lots of detail, in the category of science fiction or something related.
The final product should look like a blueprint. It should have a blue background and the drawing should be white. The blue background should not be an exact single color. It should have multiple shades to look like a real blueprint. The white lines should use thickness and partial transparency to help convey depth and secondary features. The writing should be appropriate, maybe use an architect's font. Here's a pretty good example of something that looks like a real blueprint: [login to view URL]
The object being shown should be "exploded" to show the insides and outsides. Here's an example showing an exploded Portal gun: [login to view URL]
You may show multiple angles and perspectives, if that makes sense in your artwork.
The final product should fill a rectangle somewhere around a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio. The blueprint may be portrait or landscape, depending what works best for the subject.
The object being drawn should not be a real object. It should be taken from fiction, from genres like science fiction, fantasy, comics, video games, and similar geek favorites. Spaceships, robots, etc. are good topics.
I don't want any items that are too popular or too well-known. The following are too common and I am not looking for these:
R2-D2 or C3PO
What I'm looking for are things that would be recognized by fans of the movies or TV shows they come from. I do want the blueprints to be as accurate as possible. You are free to invent anything that wasn't visible in the movie, like the internal systems. But the blueprint should not contradict anything that a fan would notice.
Here is a list of possible examples. You are welcome to suggest other ideas, because I'm sure I've missed a thousand interesting things.
K-9 (Doctor Who)
Dalek (Doctor Who)

Hewey, Dewey, and Louie robots from Silent Running ([login to view URL])
Spaceship from Silent Running ([login to view URL])
Spaceship from the original The Day The Earth Stood Still ([login to view URL])
Spaceship Nostromo from Alien
Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet ([login to view URL])
Robot from the original Lost in Space ([login to view URL])
Maria from Metropolis ([login to view URL], [login to view URL])
Sentry from original Robocop ([login to view URL], [login to view URL])
Female Robot (friendly, but not sexualized) ([login to view URL], [login to view URL])
Martians from the original War of the Worlds
The final file should be in outlines in Illustrator format. It must be able to scale without loss of quality.
I will be choosing one winner as part of the guaranteed contest, and 3 to 5 (maybe more) also at the same price. I'd like to have a good set of quality blueprints to frame.
